- Flight-day pickups happen between about 4:00 and 5:30 depending on the season, and the vans can't enter the medina's pedestrian lanes: they wait where taxis stop, at the nearest gate or square. Confirm the exact meeting point when you book, and ask your riad the night before how long the walk out takes in the dark.
- The full balloon experience — pickup, transfer to the launch area, the flight itself, breakfast after landing — takes around 4 to 5 hours, so you are usually back at the riad by late morning. Plan a slow afternoon: a nap, the courtyard, the souks when the light softens.
- Two honest warnings: dawn is cold in winter (around 4–7 °C in December–January, so bring layers), and no flight is ever guaranteed — if the wind is wrong, the operator cancels or moves you to another morning, with a refund or rebooking if flying is impossible. Keep at least one spare morning in Marrakech if the flight is the heart of your trip.
